Teaching Philosophy

As a point of difference I have decided to provide an analogy about cooking that best describes my teaching philosophy.

I feel that a teacher is like a skilled chef in a restaurant charged with providing the best outcome possible with the resources provided. In this case students can be thought of as these resources which in a restaurant would be the ingredients. As different ingredients have different roles, tastes and appearances in food so do students within a classroom. They all are unique in their own way whether it be because of the ethnic, socio-economic, religious or gender background. It is these different contexts from which students arrive that helps to shape the knowledge and skills they bring to the classroom and in turn their education experience. The teacher as the head chef is responsible for bringing out the best in each student much like how a head chef tries to bring out the subtlties of the various flavours and textures within a dish. Every student brings to school knowledge, skills and experiences that are unique and valuable...to be shared and appreciated by others.
